Marcy Angeles - Data Mining LP
Data Mining is the forthcoming 10-track experimental album by Marcy Angeles, an Apache and Guamares Two Spirit musician/journalist based in New Mexico, and the author of books The Queers of The Underground and Immutable Amative Ballads. The concept of Data Mining is the search for information; in a society where our information is rarely kept sacred, we can’t always control who has access to it.

Yet information is necessary in being-to-being interaction - we search our outer and inner worlds for information. Living with PTSD, Marcy often feels safer in her private bubble. Aside from the historical trauma that Indigenous People have experienced, she also faces the challenges of life as a Two Spirit person. Her People watch the way that society conducts itself, the way non-natives interact with or about Indigenous folks. The way that we all interact with ourselves - not only pertaining to political struggle but the politics of love, to find healing and answers about what to do next. “People with PTSD yearn for control but as spiritual people, sometimes we need to know when to surrender because Creator always knows what we need best.” - Marcy Angeles
In “Bird Song”, Marcy takes us briefly through the journey of what Native Americans know as medicine. The track is a communication with the birds during the early AM hours; connection to animals is important because it is the belief of her people that we are not removed from nature. “Data Mining“ captivates with a reflective atmosphere and glitchy breaks - it signifies going inwards to find that blank space for meditation when combatting a busy mind. Punk banger “Music Entry“ discusses having your art taken seriously as a Trans person over a heavy distorted bassline. It decries the gatekeeping by the electronic music movement’s cis het men and a society that never takes trans folks or our art seriously. “Pineal Gland“ discusses alternative means of sourcing data through the spiritual realm. With a strumming guitar, “The Angel & The Parasite“ tells the story of being a survivor who advocates for yourself and your community. Wondering if all of your hard work as a community worker will leave a space for everyone to find happiness in this world.
Data Mining is out on February 20th, 2026 via exude records on Bandcamp. It’s the third release by music imprint exude records, a label showcasing the extraordinary talent of trans* artists through sonic storytelling.
